This photograph was taken in a shopping centre in Phoenix, Arizona. The architecture there is wide ranging and artistic. These decorative struts on a balcony mirrored the fronds of the many palm trees around the town and the glass added a real mirror to create this photograph based upon geometric shape.

The Liberace museum in Las Vegas boasts an amazing collection of jewelled encrusted cars, pianos, and wonderful memorabilia about this flamboyant entertainer. Across the parking lot this sight emerged out of the heat haze at high noon in August.

The angled glass in the coned building provides interesting reflections of the cars and paths around this building.

The reflection of this older stone building in a pure glass construction provides a great juxtaposition. I particularly like the way the windows of the older building are pulled into strange shapes, as if they are standing in front of the crazy mirrors in a fair ground.

Sitting in your sunlounger on the roof of the Hyatt Hotel in Phoenix provides you with a view of one of many glass based buildings in this very modern town, which reflect some of the towers around it. Wealthy families in Italian Medieval cities built towers to represent wealth and status. I wonder if this is a modern attempt to do the same.

This photograph has a surreal quality for me and the composition was important. The lines of the lawn and the symmetry of the house contrast with the random patterns of the tree in the foreground. The overgrown tree stump looks like a pawn which has escaped from a different chess board and the sun lounger, invites us to lie down, doze and dream (but maybe not of falling down rabbit holes). The photograph was taken in the village of Montreuil in France.

The roofs covered with distinctive curved terracotta tiles make an abstract pattern of squares and triangles, broken up by television aerials and the occasional vertical of a gutter drainpipe.

The pendulum is visible at the left of the picture. Behind it, a complex series of intermeshed cogs show the internal workings of a large clock that was installed in a tower in Lucca in 1754.

Walking on the staircase around the dome feels a little like being in an Escher picture. You continue to walk and the spiral stairs take you up and then down to the bottom without stopping.

The central pillar in this part of the building has a range of mirrors which are positioned at different angles and as you look into it from ground level or from the continuous staircase, you are bemused by the reflections and unusual images it offers to our view.

This photograph was taken in Lucca in Northern Italy. Lucca is an old walled town where the houses are very tall. Many have courtyards inside the buildings, but someone had taken this small space on the roof and turned it into a quiet haven with newly painted shutters and a range of sun loving plants.

The gargoyle head on the corner of a large municipal building seems to be puffing out wreaths of black wrought iron which resolve themselves into a vase shaped holder that probably once contained an early form of street lighting.
